EP 43: "What's it like being black?"
We recorded this episode while having a large cup of caramel latte and a large Strawberry Banana Smoothie with Chocolate Chip Muffies at Panera Bread, at the Falcon ridge Shopping Center in North Fontana. I mean what else would you order when you ask a friend to meet you to talk about his stories. You see next to my mother, Anthony Miley may be the best story teller I know. He is a "master story teller," who conveys the reality of his real lived life. His stories are real and are from his heart, and it has to be a big heart because Mr. Miley (spell that right) is a big man. Not just in size but in how he carries himself with humility, gentleness and kindness. But one would never know this unless one asks him or approaches him.
In this podcast we just simply talk and I hope you are able to listen to what he is saying. He speaks from the heart which like he says what we say can cause ripples that will reach far. "One night in the emergency room" was something he wrote where another man asked him straight up, "What's it like being black?"
At a time when we have so much that is dividing us, and our country, our community, our self are feeling so much hurt. Let's take a moment to listen and see where we connect. It's hard to build a bridge. We don't know if people want it. We don't know if people will cross it. We don't know if it will mean anything. So why do we build bridges? I don't know but let's find out.
