We might say wine gets “mixed reviews” in the Bible. On the one hand, drinking too much wine will ruin ones life (Proverbs 20:1). On the other hand, the authors of the Bible see wine as a gift from God that gladdens the heart. Furthermore, when the promised Messiah comes, the people’s vats of wine will overflow (Joel 2:24)! In John 2:1-11, we learn of the first miracle of Jesus. He saves the day at a wedding and then John asks, Are you drinking this wine? I look forward to joining you this Sunday as we look at what this text tells us about Jesus as he begins his ministry in this way.
