SO...HOW DO I GET TO HEAVEN?
It is the question that everyone has, but many refuse to ask, hoping that opening doors for others and not being on COPS: MOST WANTED will be enough. But this man had the guts to ask it: "Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
Jesus answers his question with a question that leads to another question: "Who is my neighbor?" In other words, he asks the same question we've all asked: "Do I really have to love everybody?"
And this was a bit of a trap. The lawyer certainly did not believe that everyone was worthy of the title "neighbor", least of all Samaritans, Romans, or other pagan passersby.
So, Jesus answers with the parable of the Good Samaritan. We have known this story most of our lives, but do we know what it is like to become the Good Samaritan?
