For the 31st Avenue Red Podcast we present Jon Iliffe, better known simply as "Jonna", the man behind the long-running Leicester-based club night, radio show and record label, City Fly. Alec from Avenue Red went to University in Leicester and was a regular attendee at the early City Fly parties that began in 2004 and became noticed immediately with solid bookings (including Phil Weeks from Robsoul Recordings, Paris) coming to hit the City of Leicester hard with a heavy dosage of high quality house music.
Fast forward over 10 years of consistent hard work... Jonna, along with cohorts Dale Tonks and Ashley Stevenson have put an enormous amount of energy into the artistic direction of their promotions and created a uniquely holistic brand identity for their music. They have managed to remotely run successful events in London (100 miles from Leicester) at venues like Basing House and Bar 54 and have ruddered City Fly into becoming a proper record label, pressing vinyl and hosting music from renowned House music artists including Andrés, Flori, DJ Nature, Fred P, Red Rack'Em, Iron Curtis and Leif to name a few... City Fly is a name that puts Leicester on the underground music map and a label to watch out for.
In this exclusive 1-hour session, Jonna takes us on a journey through what's been happening in his box over the last year with every track in the mix being from 2014. We have been listening to this mix on heavy repeat over the last couple of weeks and can testify that it's about as addictive as Crystal Meth mixed with Krokodil. This is true house music - City Fly style!
