Whenever we face challenges or suffering in our lives, we wonder “Is there someone who will be there for me in this?” In our passage, Jesus’ disciples are facing the same question in their last night with Jesus before he is arrested. Jesus responds with a call to greater intimacy through the image of him as the true vine and their true friend.
