Ancient views often linked suffering to divine judgment: poverty, captivity, blindness, and oppression were seen as consequences of sin or divine abandonment. But today, we see how Jesus challenged this in Luke 4: 18-27 by proclaiming Himself as the one who came to set the oppressed free and bring healing to all— not just the chosen few. His message was initially met with applause, but this soon turned to rage as He shared Biblical stories that confronted their assumptions.
