Much has been written about Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anthony Shadid in the weeks since his death at age 43 while on assignment in Syria. The Open Society Foundations were fortunate enough to have hosted a conversation with Shadid in 2006 to mark the publication of his book, Night Draws Near, which tells the human story of ordinary Iraqis weathering the unexpected impact of America's invasion and occupation.
