Today on Sojourner Truth:
An update on COVID-19 as the U.S. has now surpassed the 100,000 milestone in the number of deaths.
For our Weekly Earth Watch, we speak with Amy Kober about the relationship between COVID-19 and water contamination. Amy is the Vice President for Communications at American Rivers, a national river conservation organization. She has led successful communications campaigns for high-profile river restoration, protection and clean water priorities, and directs Americas Most Endangered Rivers, one of the best-known public engagement initiatives in the conservation community.
The Trump administration is attempting to deport a death squad leader back to Haiti. Emmanuel Toto Constant was serving time in a U.S. prison for crimes committed on U.S. soil after he fled Haiti. There is an outcry against his return. Who is Emmanuel Constant and why is there opposition to his return? We speak with human rights attorney Brian Concanan. Brian is the Director of Project Blueprint, which works for a progressive, human rights-based U.S. foreign policy. Brian has worked on human rights in Haiti for 25 years, including co-managing the Bureau des Avocats Internationaux (Office of International Lawyers, or BAI) in Port-au-Prince Haiti from 1996-2004, and founding the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti (IJDH), which he directed from 2004-2019.
