Today on Sojourner Truth, our weekly roundtable.

Reaction and analysis of the Republican and Democratic national conventions as the U.S. presidential race kicks into high gear. All sides of the aisle agree on one thing: this is the most consequential election as the direction of the country is at stake. Democrats are encouraging all to vote. Trump, on the other hand, in his continued attacks on mail-in voting and support for voter suppression measures, seems determined to dampen the vote. It seems he wants to encourage only his base to vote.

From Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Pasadena, California, the country yet again reels from police shootings of Black people. As white power vigilantes step up their presence at Black Lives Matter protests, a Blue Lives Matter and Trump supporter kills two protesters in Kenosha and then calmly walks past police officers sporting his long gun, even as people yell to the police that he just shot someone. The suspect later turned himself in, according to reports. The sports world has reacted by refusing to play.

Climate change was not mentioned at the RNC, even as Hurricane Laura slammed into Texas and Louisiana as a Category 4. Scientists are now warning that the rapid growth in strength of Hurricane Laura is an example that can be connected to climate change.

Our panelists are Laura Carlsen, Jackie Goldberg and Dr. Gerald Horne.
