Join us on “Sojourner Truth” with host Margaret Prescod on the ground in Washington DC from the studios of WPFW, as we continue our a week of special broadcasts on Pacifica Radio marking the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington as well as the 150th anniversary year of the Emancipation Proclamation.
On Tuesday, we hear from Courtland Cox who was the SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee) representative among the organizers of the 1963 March on Washington. He will be joined by attorney Irv Joyner who in 1963 was a student active with the Congress of Racial Equality. He is now a law professor and part of the legal team for North Carolina’s “Moral Mondays” protests. We discuss the working relationships and the tensions among the civil rights organizations in the lead up to and post the 1963 march.
And Middle East expert Phyllis Bennis joins us to discuss the possibility of US involvement in a war with Syria given Secretary of State John Kerry’s announcement that there is no need to wait for verification on whether or not the Assad regime used chemical weapons.
