Description

Wednesday: Coming in from the cold: the domestic workers bill of rights passes in the California Legislature and grassroots women in Guyana press their government to implement the International Labor Organization’s convention protecting domestic workers. Guyana is the first country in the Caribbean region to ratify the convention.

Our guests are Joycelyn Baccus a member of the steering committee of the Caribbean Domestic Workers Network, and Rosamaria Segura of the Coalition for Humane Immigrants Rights’ domestic workers project.

And, new US Census figures on poverty: with a shredded safety net, what does the data indicate and what is the reality of life at the economic bottom of the richest country on the planet. What should be done to end poverty?

Guests are Francis Fox Piven, Professor of political science and sociology at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, author and internationally known US social policy expert. Also, Pat Gowens, founder of the Milwaukee based Welfare Warriors.

Also, our weekly “Earth Minute”.
