Description

This week, we're joined by Myles Griffin of The More You Nerd as we discuss Josh Trank’s 2015 box office bomb, Fantastic Four (also stylized as Fant4stic) rated 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell, this superhero reboot was plagued with studio interference and a spastic director, which led to shaky ground and an unsatisfying movie.

As far as technical craft and formalism, this is the best movie we’ve watched on our journey. While not ideal, Fantastic Four presents a grounded, grittier world with an okay enough story to hook the viewer. It all falls apart during the final act of the film, as the studio forced in a comic book ending.

We analyze what worked and what didn't, why Josh Trank famously panned his own movie as it came out, and how you could possibly make a great Fantastic Four film.

We finish the episode with another round of 20 Questions—this time pertaining to Game of Thrones! Of course, we’d much rather answer your questions, so send us listener mail at TheCriticalBreakdownPodcast@gmail.com or leave it in a review for us on iTunes!
