With 2008's Hancock, audiences were treated to the first dip into superhero satire — at least that's what the trailer made people think. What they actually got was a convoluted film about angels, toxic relationships, and public relations.
If there's anything redeeming about Hancock, it's that it is an interesting movie to talk about. Directed by Peter Berg, written by Vince Gilligan and Vince Gno, the film stars Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman.
On top of that, the first half of the film works well enough. About halfway through, an exposition dump takes us on one wildly unpredictable (and kind of stupid) ride.
