Highlighted articles include: AAST master surgeon Dr. Rao Ivatury from the Virginia Commonwealth University with the lead article - overview of postinjury compartment syndromes; Dr. Evan Valle and colleagues from the University of Miami with their attempt to determine the impact of early tranexamic acid administration; Dr. Leeper and associates from the University of Western Ontario adding more evidence to support early screening and pre-emptive selective angioembolization for high-grade splenic injuries; Dr. Nikolay Bugaev and colleagues from Tufts Medical Center in Boston exploring influence of hepatic cirrhosis on the ability to manage splenic injuries nonoperatively; and last Dr. Jeffrey Keenan and associates from Duke University who employed the ACS National Surgical Quality Program to ascertain the impact of delayed operative intervention for small bowel obstruction.
