Whether a series is set in the present, the past, or a different universe altogether, costume design can be the first thing a viewer notices about a character and world. It has the ability to spark curiosity, nostalgia, or sense of place by telling us who a character is (or more interestingly, who they’re trying to be). In our first in-depth look at costuming, costume designers Trayce Gigi Field (Poker Face, A League of Their Own) and Tiffany Hasbourne (P-Valley, Atlanta) discuss the unpredictable nature of costuming, why each project requires a unique approach, and the collaborative art of costume design.
