Description

Before transracial adoption, an openness to nonwhite cultures in general, the holocaust, civil rights, or a social awareness of the disabled, Pearl Buck was tirelessly pioneering on every front, using her talent as a writer and status as a nobel-prize winning celebrity to bring about social justice and global change. In the pantheon of great humanitarians such as Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Mother Theresa, and others, she has been lost to history. One of the world's first international celebrities, she was truly a citizen of the world and her message and life still resonates -- and needs to resonate far more loudly. It is so rare for someone who was constantly in the public eye to be on the right side of history in every respect. Her life is a testament to the human ideal, and we would be so lucky to have more like her.
