This is the debut full length from Calgary, Alberta’s Viet Cong, half of whose members used to be half of indie/art-rock act Women. This new quartet boasts a decidedly grittier sound, but still doesn’t lack for catchy or beautiful moments. In many ways, even down to the production, they resemble the more avant-garde side of UK post-punk in the late 1970s, but with hooks.
