"Discovery" is expanding the Bad Dad lore; we already knew Sarek wasn't great at the whole father thing, but when his adopted daughter dives into his subconscious in "Lethe", we find out he maybe gives Worf a run for his money. And in the B plot: an inappropriate Doctor/Patient relationship NOT involving Bashir!
