On this Independence Day weekend Senior Pastor Craig Bailey of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC highlighted the apostle Paul's claim of freedom in Christ in Galatians 2:20-21. In order to declare independence, one must release control of something in order to gain their desired freedom. The Founding Fathers of the United States knew what it was like not to be free and long for the feeling of freedom. They were even willing to give their lives for the freedom of others.
Paul too possessed the desire to be released from law and longed for freedom. The Old Testament is filled with imagery of slavery and lack of freedom, but the good news of the grace gifted to us by Jesus Christ releases us from the laws of the old covenant. Freedom is God's plan for his people, but how do we gain that freedom in our lives? Once we receive it, how do we then stay free? Listen to the sermon here to find the answers.
