The story of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet in John 13 is often studied and used as an example of Jesus’ humility. While it is indeed a testament to his humble nature, this past Sunday, senior pastor Craig Bailey used the passage as a demonstration of Christ’s confidence in his identity. Because he had such a strong sense of who he was, where he came from, and where he was going, Jesus was able to confidently act in ways that shocked other people—actions far below his social status. If Christ is an example of how we should live, what identity should we embrace? What identity has God crafted for us, and how should it affect the way we live and act?
