Episode 12 - Wednesday 17 August 2022:

Protecting Your Invention and Brand

We ask the following questions:

-How do you get copyright and what does it protect?

-Can I protect my invention by getting a copyright?

-What is a patent and how do I get a patent for my invention?

-I have come up with a new brand name and a logo for clothing range, can I patent that?

-If I register a trade mark, what protection will I have?

-Can I stop someone from copying my new machine for which I have registered the name as a trade mark?

-On TV products are advertised with a worldwide patent.  How does one get a worldwide patent?

-One can download patents from the internet and read them so isn’t it better just to keep my idea secret then no one can copy it?

-What if you have people you show your idea to sign a non-disclosure agreement (also known as an NDA)?

-If someone copies your invention and you have a patent, what do you do about it?

-What do you do if your invention is copied and you don’t have a patent only an NDA or you were keeping it secret?

-Is there any protection for an idea before you develop it?
