有一天晚上，我做了一个梦，梦见 我自己在沙滩上，与主一起漫步。天空中开始闪现出我生活的一幕幕情景。我注意到，每一幕的景象里，沙滩上都会留下脚印，有时是两行脚印，有时是一行。
令我烦扰的是，我留意到了一件事：在我生命的旅途中，在我生命陷入低潮时，当我遭受痛苦，悲伤和失败之际，沙滩上仅仅有一 行脚印。
我问：“主啊，祢曾应许我，当我跟从祢时，祢将永远与我同行。但是，为什么啊？在我生命中最困难的时候，沙滩上却只有一行脚印？为什么啊，当 我最需要祢的时候，祢却没有与我在一起？”
主说：“当你看到只有一行脚印，那时我正在背着你。”
Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord,
"You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?"
The Lord replied,
"The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints,
is when I carried you."
