Description

Not everyone knows that the red wedding in the George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones is actually inspired by a real event – Stockholms blodbad which translates to Stockholm bloodbath.

The Stockholm Bloodbath was a trial that led to a series of executions in Stockholm between the 7th and 9th of November, 1520. It all started with the coronation of Christian II, the celebrations of the coronation were ongoing for three days, and in the end of those three days the guests were slaughtered. After that Kristian II became known as Kristian Tyrann, which translated is Kristian the Tyrant.

Nearly 100 people were executed at the party and in the months following the tragedy.
