John Connolly's first novel, 'Every Dead Thing', introducing Detective Charlie Parker, was published in 1999; since then he's published a further 11 Parker novels with the the latest, ‘A song of Shadows’ due to be published later this year.
With his partner, Jennifer Ridyard, John published Conquest, the first book in the Chronicles of the Invaders series for teenaged readers, in 2013. The second book in that series, Empire, was published in January 2015 in the UK & Ireland and will be available in the US in February 2015.
I chat to John about how got started as a writer, from the early days as a journalist to one of the most prolific novelists around. We discuss his individual writing process and the challenge of collaboration; why stand-alone works such as 'Bad Men', 'The Book of Lost Things', as well as other projects like The Samuel Johnson trilogy, influence the Parker books; 80s music, vinyl, CDs, growing up in Rialto and loads more.
