What change are you putting off or avoiding? This week on the podcast we've been talking about change and how to make it happen and now we are down to where the rubber meets the road! Before you go any farther, think about the change you need to make... Let me guess, that conversation in your head went something like this... "I need to ___ (quit this dead-end job and go out on my own), but ___ (the benefits here are really good, the kids need braces, etc). You know, it's really not that bad, if I can get ___ (my boss) to ___ (do something you know she's not going to do), then I could be happy here again!" Or something like that... Am I right? Difficult decisions are called 'difficult' for a reason...they're hard. So what do we do in the face of a difficult decision? Make it harder! We pile on complexity, insist that our situation and circumstances are unique, add completely unrealistic possibilities, and thus justify NOT deciding and acting. The reality is that decision making is not that difficult IF you follow three simple (maybe not easy) steps. First, be super clear on the outcome you want. In the example above, there is a lot of thrashing about your job and business...but no discussion at all about the ultimate purpose or outcome either creates! What is the goal you're working toward? Second, come up with three options to choose from, no more and no less. Exactly three. In the example, you're struggling to choose between staying at a dead end job or becoming a business owner. There is a third option though, do you know what it is? Leave it in the comments below! Finally, armed with your three options, choose the one that best moves you toward your goal! Then, of course, there is taking action on the decision you made! But that's going to have to wait for another day! In the meantime, use this rule of thumb from Tony Robbins, "Never leave the scene of a decision without taking action." If you'd like to hear more on this topic, join me on the podcast 7 Minutes In the Morning (link in my bio) every weekday morning. And if you need help finding clarity of purpose, the confidence of action, or just need to take back control of your life or business, send me a DM... I can help! Enjoy!
