Thanksgiving | Loving The Other
Dustin Boreland
Jesus summarized the entire Bible with two statements, now known as the Great Commandment: 1) love God with everything you have; and 2) love your neighbour as yourself. These sound excellent and most would agree that this is a great way to live our life regardless of our race, age or class. But what does this actually look like in our busy and hurried lives today? Who exactly is our neighbour? How can we actually intentionally structure our lives around this central teaching of Jesus? This weekend, we will re-examine one of Jesus' most popular messages in the parable of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37). It is easy to agree with what Jesus teaches, and much more difficult to consider how to live it out day-to-day. If taken seriously, Jesus' call to love God and love our neighbours not only deepens our relationship with God, but also has the power to transform every one we find ourselves 'next to' throughout our lives.
