Leaders: | Serve or be served?

March 12, 2017 / Mike Gockley

The idea of being a servant is not particularly popular in our culture, nor is it the natural inclination of our hearts. We tend to want to be served rather than to serve. We all have fundamental needs and we don’t suspect that anyone else is going to go out of their way to meet them, so we have to take care of them ourselves. It is for this reason that we look around and see so many people who are dead-set on serving themselves and so few people who are given to serving others.

Jesus would agree that we have needs that truly are of primary importance. But he would argue that we are not the ones best suited to meet those needs, in fact we cannot. We will spend all of our days trying and in the end we will have failed. Once we realize who Jesus is and what he can do for us, we will ask him to serve us. This is the turning point we all must reach before we stop pursuing futility and start to experience true freedom.

Sunday morning you’ll hear how Jesus literally went to his death to serve you well so that you could be forever free from serving yourself or anyone else who would dare enslave you. Find out what it means to be a servant of the King!
