Believe: Jesus According to John | Worth Following

February 5, 2017 / Dwight Bernier

Is Jesus really worth following?

This is the question at the forefront of the text we will look at this week. In John 1:35-51, we will see Jesus’ first disciples begin to follow him. But on what basis?

Just like everyone else, these people were putting their faith in something they hoped would fulfill all their dreams - and more. They had huge expectations - but would they be disappointed in what they heard and saw in Jesus? They made some incredible claims about who they thought Jesus was, but would these proclamations be enough to capture their hearts and devotion?

As a church, this week we will live vicariously through five disciples as they explore who Jesus is and weigh out whether he is truly worth following and staying with. And then we will examine for ourselves whether Jesus’ claims are really for us.

Not only this week, but this entire series, is a good opportunity to invite people who are interested in exploring who Jesus is. John’s push is for people to believe, and so he portrays Jesus in ways that are captivating to his audience. So, why not invite some people this week to investigate whether Jesus is worth following?
