Welcome to Episode 5 of the Achieve Results NOW! podcast with your hosts, Theron Feidt and Mark Cardone. In this episode, the hosts dig into a fundamental cornerstone of human performance: genuine self-belief. While maintaining confidence is simple when you are actively winning, it becomes exponentially harder when you hit a plateau or fall into a failure rut.
Theron and Mark unpack how the subconscious mind functions through internal questions and explain why the human brain naturally focuses on external criticisms. To counter this, they provide a structured look at building a personal "Success Journal" (or Brag Book) designed to anchor past victories, map real progress, and pull you out of a mental slump.
Overcoming the World's Criticism: The human brain is naturally designed to look for threat and error, making it incredibly easy to fixate on what is wrong with yourself rather than what is right. Building a personal "brag book" is a private, necessary tool to build a healthy self-image—not to display to others, but to look at when you are feeling low.
The "Three-Deep" Friend Interview: Uncovering your own positive attributes can feel deeply awkward or difficult if you grew up around critical influences. To get an objective view, ask your closest circles what stands out about you. Because people naturally default to shallow compliments initially (e.g., "you have great hair" or "you're nice"), use the phrase, "Is there anything else?" asking three times sequentially to push past the superficial layer and find the authentic value you bring to the table.
Contextual Questioning: Frame your inquiries around the specific environment of the relationship. Instead of a broad, awkward question, tailor it directly to the connection:
With Business Partners: "What makes us effective business partners?"
With Coworkers or Employers: "What do you find most valuable about my work as an employee?"
With Family: "What do you think makes our dynamic as a friend/son/daughter strong?"
Documenting Past Wins: When you experience a milestone or breakthrough, do not simply move on to the next task. Take a moment to explicitly write a paragraph or two detailing how you felt, what you learned, and why that success mattered to you.
Tracking Micro-Victories: Long-term progress is incredibly difficult to see while you are in the middle of the daily grind. Keep your tracking ultra-simple. A single sentence documenting that you successfully executed your baseline targets—like hitting your three planned weekly workouts—is enough to solidify momentum.
The Left-Right Notebook Layout: To tie your execution to your tracking, utilize a single physical notebook configured by split pages:
The Left Side (Morning): Handwrite your top 3 to 5 clear goals first thing when you wake up.
The Right Side (Night): Document your daily victories right before you go to sleep.
Reviewing these split pages at the end of a quarter or a year gives you undeniable, written proof of exactly how far you have traveled.
Deploy the "What Else" Test: Approach a close friend or a professional partner this week and ask them what specific traits make your connection strong. Remember to ask, "Is there anything else?" to push past the initial casual answers.
Log Three Legacy Wins: Tonight, open a notebook and document three distinct successes from your past (from high school, college, or early career) that you are still fiercely proud of today, detailing what it took to achieve them.
Split Your Page: Dedicate a notebook on your nightstand to the Left-Right framework. Write your targets on the left tomorrow morning, and seal your wins on the right tomorrow night.
