my heart is heavy. one of my favourite djs ever, an inspiration to so, so many, the GOAT of ghetto house, the don of dirtyy trax, the originator, the indefatigable dj deeon has passed away. discovering chicago ghetto house was a revelation for young me, and that wouldn't have been possible without deeon. despite his monumental importance to dance culture, I can't shake the feeling that his death was avoidable. it's tragic that someone so talented and inspirational wasn't able to get adequate health care and struggled financially all the way to the end. let alone someone who helped grow the global dance music industry into the multi-billion dollar force it is today. anyway. lots of complicated thoughts, with no satisfying answers. i guess all that's left to do is what deeon woulda done... let's bang the box ✊
