Calvin called in today and said that he was primarily afraid of the dark. He has other fears that he talked about but it was the dark that stands out as a vivid memory of being caught in the middle of his fear and experiencing it full on. He was in the bathroom taking a shower when the lights went out. Caught in this moment of fear he went through the full spectrum of emotions, from panic to serenity and realized that he didn’t need to be caught in this fear at all. What is amazing to me is how Calvin grew up in a really tough neighborhood where being tough was the key to survival. He had to stand up and fight in order to gain the respect of others and not get bullied. His mom even made him show up to a fight and not back down. But non of this scares Calvin, growing up needing to be tough was just part of what was expected of him at that time. Calvin mentions that he has a list of fears that he is determined to confront each one of them starting with the Zoo and petting animals. I am rooting for Calvin to face each one of his fears… I think it is an awesome challenge. Calvin has a podcast that you can find here: https://anchor.fm/redandraw
