Most of our life is filled with rules or laws of what we can and cannot do. We learn this from the beginning of life and have them even now in nearly any place we go and at any age.
We all know or have heard about the 10 Commandments right?
Even in the perfect Garden of Eden before sin and separation entered the world God gave the commandment of not to eat of a certain tree.
God gave man 1 commandment.
1 thing He asked Him not to do.
He gave Him the entire earth and asked 1 thing.
God walked with Him daily and even made for him a helper, Eve.
And if Adam had kept this 1 commandment we would either not exist or would be living in perfect harmony with God.
But He didn’t…
Since then there have been rules and laws and commandments in abundance and more and more breaking of these rules and laws.
Jesus came and kept every commandment perfectly.
Then when asked, of all the 700+ commandments given, which is the greatest?
Here’s the story:
“And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.””
Mark 12:28-33 ESV
If Adam had kept 1 commandment, it could have prevented all the pain and separation we experience now, but, Jesus came and gave 1 commandment as well.
Love
He asked us to Love God with all that we have and are and because of this we would love His most treasured creation - people.
See, we can begin to undo all the damage done by sin just by keeping the commandment of Love.
One man Adam and one sin brought us all down.
One Man Jesus and obedience to His commandment of Love changes everything.
