In Mark's gospel, crowds are rarely depicted as good things. Crowds kept people from Jesus, crowds were places where people could take in the show without having to step up and follow. This message highlights how a woman, driven by her issues, breaks free from the masses and reaches out and touches Jesus, a touch that changed her both physically and spiritually.
