In a conversation this morning with my dear friend Mare, I recalled a time in my 20's when I rescued a drowning woman in a lake. When I swam out to her, she grabbed on to me and pulled me under, almost taking me out with her. I pushed her away and told her that until she flipped on her back and floated, I wouldn't help her. She finally did and I was able to begin to swim to shore with her. What I didn't expect was how hard it was to swim with her. Just when I got tired, two other swimmers jumped in and joined me and we safely got her to shore. Life is like a river and when we fight the flow we get tired and feel like we're going under. Demanding certainty of life is sure to leave you feeling exhausted.
