The Tell-Tale Heart – Simple SummaryThis is a story about a man who thinks he is not mad, but he does something very scary. He lives with an old man. The old man has one eye that looks like a vulture’s eye. The man does not hate the old man, but he hates the eye. The eye makes him very nervous.One night, he decides to kill the old man to get rid of the eye. He is very careful. Every night, he opens the old man’s door very slowly. He watches the old man sleep. But the eye is always closed, so he waits. On the eighth night, the eye is open! He gets very angry and scared. He jumps into the room, pulls the old man to the ground, and kills him.Then, he hides the body under the floor. He is happy because no one can see anything. But soon, the police come. A neighbor heard a scream and called them. The man is not afraid. He smiles and talks to the police. He even lets them sit in the same room where he hid the body.But then, he hears a sound. It is a soft, quick beat. He thinks it is the old man's heart still beating under the floor! The sound gets louder and louder. He gets very scared. He thinks the police can hear it too, and they are laughing at him. He cannot take it anymore. He shouts, "I did it! The heart is beating under the floor!"The story ends with the man confessing his crime because of his own fear and guilt.
