How could God justify the murder of newborns in Egypt for the Passover?
Does God consider non-believers to be lesser than compared to his believers? Is that why he doesn't value their lives in the same way and is comfortable killing them en-masse, even babies?
Can you explain why God "hardened Pharaoh's heart"? Does it mean God encouraged Pharaoh to remain stubborn, and if so, why did He then proceed to punish him?
There seems to be a strong implication in the Bible that there may have been more than one god, but the Hebrew God won out. The Jews who fled with Moses don't seem to be as taken aback by God's miracles as one might expect. Does this suggest other gods with their own miracles may have existed? How well is this reflected in the scripture?
Why is 7 considered a holy number in the Bible? Why not an even number? Is it supposed to represent completeness? Is that the origin of a 7-day week? Do other non-Bible based cultures use the number 7, if so how?
Why is God so violent and bloodthirsty during this and later books? Why is death, often via stoning, such a consistent punishment for seemingly innocuous violations? How can God preach love and forgiveness on the one hand, yet be so merciless when it comes to those of His children who stray from the path, even a little?
Why was the punishment for Moses so harsh—his not being allowed into the promised land? After all he did for God, why was such a minor infraction as striking a stone harshly enough to merit God's wrath and prevent him from enjoying the efforts of his life-long sacrifices?
What do we know about the precise dating of the Exodus events? While traditional dates range from around 1500-1200 BCE, what does current scholarship tell us about when these events might have occurred? And how well do they correlate with Egyptian history?
