Imagine this: It's roughly 1400 years before Jesus, give or take a few decades. Think ancient Egypt is already old news, and the Bronze Age is winding down. We're talking about a time when chariot races were probably the equivalent of NASCAR, and your average GPS was a really good camel. The people we're focusing on, the Israelites, have just spent a few generations wandering around the desert after a dramatic escape from slavery in Egypt. They’re finally about to cross into a new land called Canaan, which, spoiler alert, is already occupied. And these chapters we’re looking at, Deuteronomy chapters 12 through 26, are basically God, through Moses, laying down the law – literally – for how they’re supposed to live in this new place. It’s like the ultimate ‘Welcome to Canaan’ orientation, but instead of free t-shirts, you get a whole lot of rules.
