Picture this: it's around 1400 BCE. After forty years of wandering in the wilderness, the Israelites have finally crossed the Jordan River into what they believe is their promised homeland. The great military campaigns are largely behind them. Now comes perhaps an even more complex challenge – dividing up the land among twelve distinct tribes. Each tribe has their own identity, their own needs, their own expectations.
