Description

Picture this: the story of Ruth is set during what we call the period of the Judges – around 1100 BCE in ancient Israel. Think of it like the Wild West – a time when "everyone did what was right in their own eyes," as the Bible puts it. No kings, no central government, just local tribal leaders trying to keep order. Now, it's important to note that while the story is set during this period, most scholars believe the book itself was actually written much later, probably during the Persian period around 550-330 BCE. The story we're diving into today takes place in Bethlehem, a small farming town that would later become famous as King David's birthplace. But right now? It's just a modest agricultural community where everyone knows everyone else's business.
