Dr. Jonathan Woods

Jonathan Woods is a Senior Fellow with the American Council on Education. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and holds academic degrees in general studies from Reedley College, adult learning from Southern Illinois University, business administration from Jacksonville University, and educational administration from the University of Florida. Woods has served as university faculty, curriculum developer, and as branch head, regional director, and policy chief for Navy education and training programs.
Dr. Woods is the former director of the Career Readiness Suite, which includes both academic and non-academic credentials within the office of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Force Education & Training). He entered federal service in 2004 and has directed voluntary education activities at the Installation, Region, Service, and Agency level. His programs affect the investment of roughly $700M in annual federal funding and touch about 800,000 Service members each year.
His decorations include the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service, the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and several unit and campaign awards.
