Tails of Hope Podcast β Episode 1, Part 1
ποΈ Guest: Asha Ambekar β Founder of Shashwat Foundation
πΎ Topic: Rescuing, Rehabilitating & Giving Hope to Strays in India
In our very first episode of Tails of Hope β Voices for the Voiceless, Hope for Every Paw, we are honoured to have Asha Ambekar, the incredible Founder of Shashwat Foundation β a sanctuary of hope for countless stray animals who otherwise would have no one to care for them.
Asha's story is not just about animal rescue β itβs about compassion, resilience, and creating hope for the voiceless. What started as a personal mission after witnessing the heartbreaking plight of stray animals, soon turned into a full-fledged animal welfare movement through Shashwat Foundation.
But the journey wasnβt easy.
When asked what inspired her journey into animal welfare, Asha shared a deeply moving story of a wounded dog left abandoned on the roadside. That moment shook her. While most people walked past the dog, Asha stopped, carried it to a vet, and stayed by its side. That day, she knew β she had to become the voice for the voiceless.
What followed was a lifelong mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome stray animals who had no one else to turn to. Over the years, Shashwat Foundation has:
β
Rescued and treated hundreds of injured and abandoned animals.
β
Facilitated adoptions, ensuring strays find loving forever homes.
β
Promoted compassion and community involvement through awareness programs.
But the work is far from over. Every day, thereβs a new dog, cat, or bird needing urgent care.
Asha also opened up about the harsh realities of animal welfare in India:
Her message is clear: "If we donβt act now, the voiceless will continue to suffer in silence."
But not all stories end this happily. Thousands of animals still live in neglect, starvation, and abuse β and this is where Shashwat Foundation steps in every single day.
Asha humbly admitted that the biggest challenge her foundation faces is limited resources. With over 30+ strays under their care at any given time, the foundation constantly struggles to meet:
β
Medical expenses for critical cases.
β
Food and shelter for abandoned animals.
β
Sterilization and vaccination for population control.
β
Emergency rescues from abuse or injury.
π And this is where YOU can make a difference.

As we wrapped up Part 1 of this heartfelt episode, Asha said something that stayed with us:
"We may not change the world for every animal, but we can change the world for one animal at a time. And thatβs how hope is created β one paw at a time."
Her message is a powerful reminder that kindness is a choice β and every time you choose compassion, you help change a life.
