What would make a corporate professional leave behind the comfort of office cabins to feed forgotten paws on the streets? Meet Seema Gandhiok Mohanchandran– a woman whose journey from a compassionate childhood to a powerful voice in the animal welfare movement is nothing short of inspiring.
Her first rescue was at age four—a tiny kitten in need. That moment wasn’t just an emotional plea to her mother, it was the ignition of a fire passed down through generations. Digging into old family photos, Seema discovered hergreat-grandfather—a kind Sikh gentleman feeding stray dogs—proving that love for animals was in her DNA.
Years later, this empathy matured into relentlessaction. With over six years of animal welfare behind her, Seema has become a frontline warrior for community animals. Her heart belongs to the streets—notjust the dogs and cats, but every voiceless soul needing care, food, dignity, and a right to coexist.
She draws inspiration from organizations like AnimalAid (Udaipur), Seva Strays (Mumbai), and Kartavya Society, among others. But Seema doesn’t just talk. She acts. Whether advocating for feeding rights, protesting harmful traditions, or rescuing animals from violence and apathy, she is unwavering.
In this episode, Seema shares gripping stories:
🧍♂️ A blind senior dog being denied an elevator ride.
🌳 Citizens uniting to protect forest land in Telangana.
🐕 Feeding strays using what she fondly calls the "Jai Shree Krishna" principle—a clever, spiritual way to disarm naysayers.
She speaks of India's outdated views on strayanimals, where the educated class often shuns streeties, and myths flourish—like believing feeders are paid by the government, when in reality, it’s out of their own pockets.
“Just like we crave a warm meal, they deserve onetoo,” she says. Seema envisions communities embracing strays—not caging them, but vaccinating, sterilizing, and integrating them lovingly. Her fight is not for sympathy, but for empathy, dignity, and co-existence.
If Seema’s story moves you, it’s time to act.
