In this deeply personal episode of All Glory to God, I sit down with my older sister Liz to share her extraordinary journey of hardship, healing, and redemption through Jesus Christ.
From a young age, Liz faced profound challenges. At just four years old, she was left in the care of her father—who struggled with alcoholism—and her grandmother after our mother left. While her father’s addiction created instability, her grandmother instilled strong values and love in Liz. But despite the care she received, Liz was forced to grow up quickly and became a caregiver to her younger brothers.
At 17, Liz moved into a foster home where she not only found stability but also a loving family that took her to church and introduced her to a life centered on faith. It was in this environment that Liz was able to start processing the emotions she had buried for so long, and for the first time, she saw a glimpse of what a healthy, Christ-centered family could look like.
Life, however, continued to test her. She endured a marriage shattered by infidelity, and a second marriage that ended when her husband committed a crime against her children and was imprisoned.
Through it all, Liz has found strength and healing in Christ, even in the most painful seasons. She experienced the loss of our brother to suicide, the death of her son Taylor after a long struggle with addiction, and the passing of our mother. Though the circumstances around Taylor’s death were complex and remain unclear, Liz’s faith in Jesus has been her anchor through it all. She also saw her relationship with our mother restored before her passing, which brought healing during an incredibly difficult time.
Our bond deepened when I was 18, and Liz was navigating her second divorce. One summer, I helped take care of her children, and through that time, we built a relationship based on trust, understanding, and mutual support.
Liz will tell you herself that she once lived with a victim mentality, but today, she stands firm in the truth that Jesus has healed her, transformed her heart, and shown her how to forgive. Happily married with four beautiful children, Liz cherishes each day and lives fully in the knowledge that tomorrow is never promised.
This is a story of resilience, transformation, and the deep love of a Savior who never lets us go. All glory to God.
