Description

What does your process reveal about who you're becoming?

Alyssa didn't think they were an artist. They couldn't draw what they saw the way other people could. But at 16, when they tried psychedelics, something shifted. Art and the medicine became inseparable. And they realized their non-traditional relationship with creativity, the way they actually work, was the thing that made them uniquely valuable.

Now an art therapist and co-founder of the Psychedelic Art Therapy Network, Alyssa has spent the last 13+ years teaching people that your creative process, how you think, how you make, how you relate, isn't something to optimize or hide. It's the portal to understanding yourself. They bring trauma-informed, intersectional care to this work, believing that healing and creative expression have to be accessible to all of you, not just the parts that fit.

Alyssa draws a distinction between process and product. When you stop asking "what should this look like?" and start asking "how does this feel?" that's when the aliveness shows up.

A creative process is only as valuable as the relationship you're willing to build with it.

Building your capacity to understand your own creative process—that is the practice of becoming.

Enhanced Senses Podcast is about the felt sense of being a self. Art, psychedelics, and extreme sports are the portals I've used to reach that felt sense most often in my life.
