Rising input costs make manure management decisions more important than ever, according to Andy Scholting, founder of Nutrient Advisors. He discusses fall application strategies that can turn manure from a net cost to a net value in today’s expert conversation on manure management economics.
Today’s “Legacy Farmer” segment features Leroy Bartel of Manawa, Wisconsin, who grew his dairy from 40 cows in 2006 alongside his daughter, Tash, eventually transitioning to a new freestall barn and double-10 parlor. Bartel shares lessons on adapting to change, persevering through tough times and finding a good life in farming. In today’s “So You Think You Had a Bad Day” segment, a farmer’s chopper malfunctions while harvesting winter rye left 60 acres to chop before planting season. A nearby custom operator came to the rescue, working through the night and finishing at 2:30 a.m. to keep the farm on schedule.
