What's the trick to maintaining your faith?
This episode of the Fish Bag Podcast dives into the essentials of maintaining faith, drawing on the collective wisdom of the community during a recent Thursday Revival Morning at the 81 Space. JP kicks things off by framing the discussion as a kind of “spiritual survival guide,” inspired by classic survival manuals but focused on what it takes to keep faith alive and thriving—especially in a world that can feel spiritually hostile or simply distracting.
The group identified several core pillars for sustaining faith, which emerged from both personal reflection and small group discussions. These pillars were remarkably consistent across the community, highlighting shared experiences and biblical foundations.
Key Points to Maintaining Faith:
Community: Staying connected to other believers is vital. Community offers encouragement, accountability, and a sense of belonging. Engaging with the church and building relationships with fellow Christians helps guard against isolation and spiritual drift.
Relationship with God: Regular engagement with God through prayer, Bible reading, and seeking solitude are foundational. The group emphasized the importance of “practicing the presence of God”—being aware of and communicating with God in all circumstances, not just during set religious activities.
Service: Actively serving others and sharing your faith strengthens your own beliefs. Evangelism and testimony are not just for others’ benefit—they reinforce your own commitment and remind you of God’s work in your life.
Disciplines: Spiritual disciplines like rest, gratitude, worship, and self-examination help maintain a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Practicing humility, remembering your salvation, and allowing your mind to be transformed by God’s truth are all crucial.
Expecting Challenges: The group agreed that expecting suffering and spiritual attack is part of the journey. Difficulties are not signs of God’s absence but opportunities for growth, maturity, and deeper intimacy with Him.
A standout insight was the power of constant communication with God. JP likened it to having a direct line to your commander in the field: your “spiritual radio” is always on, and God is always listening. Even when routines change or life gets busy, the invitation is to keep talking to God—He never tires of hearing from you.
The episode wraps with an invitation to keep building this culture of faith together, encouraging listeners to share their own tips and join the ongoing conversation.
