As an artist, it can be easy to have a million ideas and end up bouncing around like a pinball working on different things. While starting new projects is exciting, you can end up feeling behind and stressed with so many things to do! Here is what I've done to combat this:

First, I've instituted a time blocking system recommended by Ali Alquaraghuli in his ADHD productivity course. I have never been diagnosed with ADHD, but I definitely have focus challenges! Blocking off time in my calendar for specific types of tasks REALLY helps give me permission to go deep on them. For instance, when I have two hours blocked off for painting, there is no way I'm going to look at social media in that time. I have things like painting, social media posting/management, recording podcasts, and emailing my supporters all blocked off as specific events in my calendar. They also alert me when they start so I know when to switch! This way I can relax knowing that enough time has been allocated for each of the things.

If you begin this system, you might find like me that you only have time to do half the things you want to do! That's where the ideas in Essentialism by Greg McKeown come in. His basic idea is that if you take the time to analyze which tasks are bringing you more fulfillment and progress toward your goals, then you can prioritize them and get rid of everything else. He says "You can do anything you want, but you can't do everything you want." I have had trouble applying Essentialist ideas in the past, but time blocking helps to bring me back to earth! Since there is only so much time, which thing do I choose?

This quote by James DuMoulin who runs the School of Hard Knockz Instagram account has really impacted me lately. In this clip, he says "Most people are addicted to education and allergic to implimentation."

I have definitely been one of those people! While I implement more than most, I want to do so much more!

These are the organizational tools I'm using to help me prioritize and implement more. I hope they help you!
