It’s our songs that make an artist, it’s that expression that connects an audience through a range of emotions, and gives them something to hold and own. Let’s talk about effective songwriting as a music artist.
In this episode I unpack songwriting as stage 3 of the music artist life cycle.
We’ve already had a look at branding and vision, and playing our music live, the next stage of our music journey is songwriting.
I look into why songwriting is so important for the music artists, and how it’s the logical next step for us as musicians.
There are two important aspects I believe a song needs to be engaging and grow a solid fanbase. The first is story. Our songs need to follow a musical story and flow. This means writing a solid beginning, middle and end and taking the listener omg a journey. There is a good set up, a well placed build, a moment or two of tension, and a fulfilling release and hero moment.
The second is the musical elements, and making sure they’re working together to create the magic in your song. This is the melody, harmony, rhythm, and lyrics. Making sure all the elements enhance each other, and don’t cause our brain to do unnecessary thinking that takes away from the enjoying and emotion of the art.
