Christopher Wiens is an audio engineer & drummer based out of the Greater Toronto Area. His work includes recording, mixing, mastering, and live sound for music, as well as recording and editing Audiobooks for Penguin Random House Canada. Musically he has performed regularly in jazz ensembles such as Mason Victoria’s SSJO, rock bands like For Jane (now known as Dilettante), as well as music theatre productions around the GTA.
From an early age he took interest in music and recording, playing with his dad’s cassette machines, as well as learning piano & drums. Eventually he began performing weekly in the church his family attended, and began taking music seriously while in an arts program in high school. This led him to Humber College’s Bachelor of Music program where he began studying with Larnell Lewis, Mark Kelso, and Peter Cook, among others, and was given the opportunity to perform with Christian McBride and Emilie Claire-Barlow.
While at Humber College, Christopher was also introduced to thinking about recording in a more serious way. Fascinated by recorded sounds' unique ability to recreate or heighten reality, he started to explore it more and soon began a Masters in Music Technology at the University of Toronto, studying with Jeff Wolpert, Eliot Britton, Greg Newsome, and Cathrine Moore.
Now having finished this masters program, Christopher continues working in the GTA as a freelance audio engineer & drummer, and has also released his first independent project entitled ‘ensemble none.’ You can find it on Bandcamp and other streaming services.
