Previously on... Evan Gold is a private detective in Athens, Kansas. His head is swimming after the strange events of the week - his partner is murdered, the widow and the police name him suspect number one in the recent murders, and Evan needs to find the real murderer before he ends up in Leavenworth.
With Claire safely stowed away from whoever is intimidating her, Evan gets a phone call that will change the entire course of this case. But will he be able to respond to the call in enough time, or will life keep him from making it to The Webster on time? Ooo, I tell ya, I sure wouldn't want to be in Evan's shoes for the life of me... but it's sure fun to read.
